Fund for Active Recruitment Message

November 8, 2017

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to draw your attention to the Fund for Active Recruitment, and to important changes that have been made to the program.

The Fund for Active Recruitment provides grants of up to $2000 to support active recruitment and outreach; foster relationships with promising potential faculty members; and build a diverse pipeline for current and anticipated searches.

Proposals for active recruitment might include:

  • Direct support for searches approved through the Institutional Hiring Plan.
  • Travel for a search committee member or faculty member to attend a conference to recruit competitive and diverse applicants for a search.
  • Bringing promising faculty members from underrepresented areas to campus for a pre-application visit.
  • Increasing the number of on-campus interviews for current searches, to ensure the best possible diversity in the finalist pool.

In order to increase flexibility in your outreach efforts, we have expanded eligibility to include searches for both tenure-related faculty positions and non-tenure-related faculty positions. Additionally, we encourage proposals that include outreach to promising graduate students. In order to provide maximum opportunity for creative, proactive use of these funds, applications are now accepted on a rolling basis throughout the calendar year.

More information about the Fund for Active Recruitment application process is available online. Mariann Hyland, assistant vice provost for academic affairs, is available to answer any questions you might have. You can reach her at hylandm@uoregon.edu.

I wish you the best as you move forward with your recruitment and outreach efforts. Please do not hesitate to let me know if I can be of any assistance.

Best wishes,

Scott Pratt

Executive Vice Provost for Academic Affairs
